3rd Grade Summer Reading Superstar
Welcome back Cougars! We are excited to kick off a new school year with a “brand new batch of friends”!
Our faculty and staff are hard at work preparing for a new school year.
The varsity volleyball team went undefeated at the preseason jamboree at Newberry College.
The middle school volleyball team went undefeated in the preseason jamboree at Newberry College.
Students had a great time building and programming robots at Robotics Summer Camp.
The Varsity Soccer Team worked hard this summer. They ended their summer workouts with a Blue vs White game, with the Blue team winning the Soccer Summer Champs trophy.
Everyone had a ball at Soccer Summer Camp!
February 2 – CA mothers and sons gathered at Skate Away last night for Mother Son Skate Date Night. Everyone had a great time skating, enjoying yummy pizza, and spending time in fellowship with other CA families. Thank you to all of the volunteers that made this event so wonderful!
February 1 – When the weather is chilly, snowmen are the perfect snack for the K4 class.
January 29 – One of the many great things about Cambridge Academy is the opportunity for students of all ages to interact with one another. Each Friday, our 5th grade students visit the K3 classroom for a special time together. This has become something that both classes look forward to each week.
January 27 – These K3 Cougars are making “Noodle Necklaces” while learning about the letter N.
January 14 – Congratulations to our CA Spellers for a job well done at the SCISA Region Spelling Bee! Jace and ViviJoy advanced to the State competition that will be held in February.
January 14 – Our Varsity girls basketball team was featured in the Index Journal today. We are excited to have Varsity girls basketball back at CA after 13 years!
January 13 – Our Head of School, Mrs. Gable, was featured in the Index Journal for her pie baking skills!
January 12 – Did you know? All CA middle and upper school students are required to complete community service hours each year. Yesterday, students had to submit 1/2 of their yearly hours for approval. If all students had submitted their minimum requirement, 550 hours would have been submitted. As of last count, 1,777 hours and 50 minutes have been logged thus far by our middle and upper school students. 56% of the students have submitted more than the yearly requirement by midyear and 21% have more than doubled their yearly requirement by midyear. Way to go Cougars!
January 11 – In honor of the National Championship football game, 6th graders built and programmed football catapults in Robotics class today.
January 9 – Great job to these two CA students for auditioning for Region Band this morning. They are the first CA students to ever audition for the band run by the SC Band Directors Association. Our region spans from Lexington to Anderson.
January 8 – Chocolaty, sweet, and warm were some of the describing words that K5 students used to describe the hot chocolate that they made this afternoon. This was a great treat for a day like today which can be described as cold, rainy and dreary…
January 4 – Welcome Back Cougars! Our student body kicked off the first day of classes in 2016 with a school wide Cougar Assembly. It is always wonderful to join together as a school community for a time of sharing and celebrating what our classes are doing, but it is especially exciting to do it on the first day back after a two week break. We have missed each other and are so glad to be back together again!
December 19 – January 3 – The faculty, staff and students of Cambridge Academy wish you a Joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year! We hope that all of our families have a restful Christmas Break. See you on January 4!
December 17 – The Upper School Visual Arts students put the finishing touches on their original prints today. These limited edition prints were created using handcarved linoleum printmaking technique. Someone is going to receive great Christmas presents!
December 16 – The K3 class is getting in the Christmas spirit by making these adorable Christmas tree snacks (and they look yummy too).
December 15 – Although the excitement of Christmas vacation is in the air, our students continue to work hard and put academics first. This week our 7th grade science students are presenting PowerPoint research presentations on genetic disorders.
December 15 – This morning the K4 students made names out of “snowballs.” This brought a lot of giggles and excitement to the classroom! The students carefully removed the stickers, and gently placed the stickers on the letters to help with fine motor control. The kids were detail-oriented and attentive throughout the activity! Well done K4!
December 15 – The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Cambridge Singers are heading out to spread Christmas cheer at local nursing homes this morning. After all, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” (Buddy the Elf).
December 14 – Today’s 1st grade writing assignment was to write friendly letters to Santa. With all the emphasis this time of year to send “wish lists” to Santa, the first grade students decided to make Santa feel special with friendly letters instead.
December 11 – After a busy Spirit Week, our K3 class enjoyed Pajama Day!

December 10 – Spirit Week / Blue and Gold Day – The 6th graders are full of CA Spirit!
December 9 – Even with all of the spirit week excitement, academics still came first this week! The 4th grade class had a great time visiting the Robotics Lab this week and working with the 7th graders on various projects.
December 9 – Spirit Week Class Theme Day – The 9th Graders certainly showed their CA Homecoming Spirit with their door and costumes. They were later awarded with Best Class Theme and Door!
December 8 – Spirit Week is so much fun! Tacky Tuesday was the favorite theme day for many of our students.
December 6 – Winners from the Uptown Greenwood Christmas Parade were just announced…drum roll please…Cambridge Academy won Best Adaptation of Theme (1 of 4 floats receiving a perfect score of 15 out of 15 points) and won the Education / School Category! Great job Cougars!!!!
December 5 – The cast for Alice in Wonderland has announced!
December 4 – Our third grade class had a blast exploring Roper Mtn. Science Center today.
December 3 – Our classroom spelling bee winners from grades 3 – 8 participated in our annual school spelling bee this morning. These students will represent CA at the SCISA Region Spelling Bee in January. Congratulations to Jordan M. for being the winner of the school bee! Patrick C. came in 2nd and McCord L. 3rd.
November 30 – Congratulations to our 2015 Class Spelling Bee winners! These students will represent CA at the SCISA Region Spelling Bee on January 14. The class winners will also participate in a school practice bee on Thursday morning to help them prepare for region. November 21 – 29 – Happy Fall Break!
November 20 – Our school was filled with grandparents and special friends today for one of our favorite days of the year: Grandparents Day! We kicked off our fall break with a wonderful program featuring music from around the world.
November 19 – The Cambridge Academy FCA sponsored a Clemson vs USC canned food drive and collected over 700 canned goods to be donated to local charities. Clemson fans won the competition by donating the most cans. Pictured with the collected items are FCA Student Leaders: Kennedy, Gracen and Grace.
November 18 – Our Book Fair is open for business!
November 17 – Congratulations to the CA Class of 2016! College acceptances (and scholarship offers) are starting to arrive in the mail!
November 16 – The CA middle and upper school students enjoyed a performance of “Hamlet” at the Peace Center in Greenville this morning.
November 12 – Each month our 2nd Grade class presents book reports. For the month of October the students were assigned to read a mystery book. On the day of book report presentations they came dressed as their favorite character from the book they read.
November 11 – CA Veterans Day program. Thank you to our speaker, Wayne Bell, and all of our special guests.
November 4 – Congratulations to the CA Middle School Drama team for winning the middle school division of the SCISA Region Drama Festival! Abbie B. was named Best Actress overall, Nora J. was named Honorable Mention Best Actress, and McCord L. was named Best Actor overall! Way to go Cougars! Both our middle and upper school teams will now advance to the state competition!
November 4 – Congratulations to the Upper School Drama Team on their winning performance of THE STRUGGLES by Kendra Thomas. Congratulations also to Elizabeth D. who was named Best Actress overall for the Upper School Division. They will now advance from region to state!

October 30 – Our Cougar Cubby students have been replaced by some strange characters today for some Halloween fun!
October 30 – No tricks, only treats! The CA family was treated to a wonderful performance of the Littlest Pumpkin Play by our K5 class this morning. Great job K5!

October 23 – K3 Leaf Hunt…Fall is in the air!
October 22 - Guess who made it to the SCISA State Varsity Volleyball Tournament? YOUR Cambridge Cougars did!!! After a great season, our varsity team has earned a bid to the state tournament for the first time since 2012 (only 16 of the 34 1A teams qualified).
October 21 – Members of FCA had a great time this morning at their meeting. Today’s theme was Becoming God’s Pumpkin. Members helped create an FCA jack-o-lantern. To find out how your life is similar to that of a Halloween jack-o-lantern, ask a member of FCA.
October 20 – After finishing their chapter on classifying living things, 4th grade students created edible plant and animal cells. They used their edible creations to compare and contrast the make-up of each.
October 19 – Congratulations to the CA Girls Golf Team on a GREAT season! They ended their season today at the state tournament finishing #7 in the state! Each player on this young team drastically improved this season and made new personal best scores. They were heard saying this weekend that they are sad the season is over because they had so much fun together, and that’s what it is all about! And since the tournament was on the coast, they got to enjoy some great views too.
October 17 – Congratulations to the Middle School Volleyball team for being named SCISA Class A Region II Middle School Volleyball Tournament Runner-Up today. This team had a great season with only one regular season loss, and went into the tournament as the #1 seed. .
October 15 – Members of our Upper School SGA visited Richard Winn Academy as part of Student Exchange Week. This program is designed to allow SCISA schools to visit one another and exchange ideas. Our students had a great time visiting Richard Winn, meeting their students, sitting in on classes, and seeing the town of Winnsboro. Thank you to Richard Winn Academy for being a great host school. We look forward to hosting your students later in the school year.
October 15 – The CA FCA organized a flood relief drive for water and other items to be delivered to Columbia.
October 9 – Today students in grades K5 – 5 participated in our annual Walk to School Day.

October 6 – Way to go to the CA Volleyball teams for raising $1,382 during their Pink Out fundraising!
October 1 – The CA 4th Graders are Poets and Now They Know It! As the 4th grade class worked on their autobiography and studied elements of the Poetry genre they combined the two and created an M & M poem. Each color of an M & M told something special about themselves.
September 30 – Team “Squad Goals” won our first annual Dig Pink Volleyball Tournament

September 23 – The Cambridge Academy Student Government Association Officers had the unique opportunity today to participate in the SCISSA (South Carolina Independent School Student Association) Fall Conference held in the House of Representatives Chambers at the Statehouse. While in session at the Statehouse, they attended a general meeting, developed and debated resolutions, and met with Student Government Association officers from other SCISA schools.
September 23 – Our FCA gathered around our school flagpole this morning to participate in “See You at the Pole”. This is an international event celebrating Global Week of Student Prayer.

September 15 – Students in life science completed a classification activity where they classified many different types of beans and created their own taxonomy system for each bean. Students discovered how challenging it can be for scientists to agree on important, observable features when classifying new species of organisms.
September 9 – Miss Lagrone’s 6th and 7th grade History classes recently did Ancestry Projects, in which they had to research their ancestors and discover their unique genealogical backgrounds, their countries of origin, their reasons for coming to America, and what historical events they witnessed. The students were amazed to learn of their ancestors’ various ethnic backgrounds, ranging from Egyptian to German, English to Indian, and that several of them were descended from well-known historical figures such as Pocahontas and John Rolfe from the original Jamestown settlement, and Ann Putnam from the infamous Salem witchcraft trials. The students also uncovered records from both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars to see what their ancestors had experienced; in another case, one student’s relative had met Gandhi. “I can’t believe I didn’t know any of this before!” said one 6th grader.
September 8 – After reading the book, Art & Max by David Wiesner, 1st grade students created their very own contour line drawings of the character Arthur.
September 5 – All 6th grade students at Cambridge Academy are learning to play a band instrument this year! We have flute, clarinets, trumpets and trombones for the students to learn. They were super excited to get their instruments yesterday, and begin learning how to assemble them.
September 4 – 7th grade robotics students built alarmed treasure chests in class this week. Students challenged the teams to try to open their box and steal the contents inside without triggering the alarm.
September 3 – Football has returned to CA!
September 3 – After reading the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, the K4 class created a very special coconut tree snack.
August 28 – 1st Grade Milk Experiment – The CA 1st graders had their first weekly science lab visit of the school year today. Prior to visiting the lab they discussed what it means to be a scientist and what exactly a scientist does. Today’s experiment was the “Milk Experiment”. During this experiment they learned about molecules and created color bursts using milk, food coloring and dish detergent.
August 27 – 1st Pep Rally and Blue & Gold Day – Congratulations to the 1st Grade for winning the 1st Spirit Stick Competition of the school year!
August 20 – First Day of School – It’s the first day of a new school year and we are so excited to once again have our hallways filled with smiling Cougar faces!

August 10 – We’re getting Ready to Cheer in a New School Year at Little and Junior Cougar Cheer Camp sponsored by the Middle School and Varsity Cheer Squads.
